How a hidden BikeFinder tracker led police straight to the thief and the stolen bicycle just an hour later
In the heart of Oslo, bike theft is an everyday risk. For Thomas, it happened in broad daylight outside a busy hotel. One moment his bike was locked, the next it was gone. But his hidden BikeFinder tracker turned the chase into a victory. Read more to find out what happened.
This is Thomas’s story:
“I parked and locked my bike outside the Clarion Hotel in Bjørvika, and when I came back out, it was gone. I opened the BikeFinder app — 10% battery left on the tracker, 20% on my phone — so we had to act fast. Luckily, the bike wasn’t far away, according to the app, somewhere between Storgata and Hausmanns gate. I reported it stolen in the app and ran over.
When I got there, I saw my bike and the thief with a couple of friends adjusting the seat. I called the police right away. They arrived quickly, but as they pulled up, the thief took off down the street. I ran after him while the police drove behind. They managed to stop him, and of course, he claimed the bike was his.”
