How BikeFinder helped catch a thief
An Riese&Muller e-bike was stolen during a quick shop, but thanks to the BikeFinder tracker, the police was able to track down the thief in real time over the phone, leading to a flawless recovery.
This is Magnus’s story:
“I’ve had my dark grey Riese&Muller e-bike, which cost around NOK 57,000, for a year and a half. The bike store had recommended the BikeFinder tracker to me. So I decided to buy it.
I use my bike a lot. During spring, summer and autumn, I ride my bike every weekday to and from work, to activities, when meeting up with friends or whatever. Sometimes also during weekends when I travel alone.
One Saturday evening, I went to a local grocery store where I parked and locked the bike outside. But when I came out, after finishing my shop, the bike was gone. I immediately went into the BikeFinder app and checked for a signal. Fortunately, there was a signal, so I followed the app’s step by step guide on what to do in case of theft. First, I reported the theft through the app, and then contacted the police. They connected me with a patrol car, and I directed the officers to the different locations provided by the GPS tracker.
A police pursuit
It took me a bit to figure out how to adjust the frequency of the GPS signals, but once I figured it out, my adrenaline kicked in as I guided the police closer and closer until they eventually caught the thief. The chase ended at a Circkle K station at E18 going north, not far from Ikea furuset.
The police were fantastic! I was on the phone with them throughout the whole pursuit until the thief was caught. They even drove me home in the police car and delivered the bike to my doorstep.
Although my bike was locked, the thief was able to lift it into a van or a car since the lock only secured the tire. The lock was still intact when the bike was returned, they hadn’t had time to remove it.
